No, thank goodness no! The G system has Zeiss glass, and not just one or two lenses (like the Xpan), a nice coverage of 16mm to 90mm. Typical! - I guess that means you have to compromise for cheap lenses no one has heard of. It was at this point the G system hangs in the balance, because it doesn't have the 'M mount', instead opting for it's only G mount. The next thing to point out of course is the good news didn't just stop at the AF, it also has a rather high shutter speed, and option to take multiple exposures (neither or which are something you get with a Leica).
So when I first learnt of he G system I have to say it made me want to look into the camera almost immediately. It also doesn't help in 'street situations', where even shooting with something as silent and stealthy as a rangefinder, you can stand out if you are stood still for to long 'faffing' about with the focus. Now with a static subject this is usually ok, but for anything moving - no. I usually like to check once or twice to ensure I have locked the focus. The concept always excited me as the one issue I have always had with MF rangefinders is focusing quickly.

Now i'm gradually switching to a full analog setup and the g1 with its wonderful lenses seemed the right option.ĭigital becomes obsolete very quickly, i wanted a camera that i could use through the years without starving for updates and megapixels! I realized that i don't need a big dslr for my everyday pics, i don't need to sell stock photos or print for exhibitions, and found the pleasure of shooting for myself. I discovered the g1/g2 watching the videos at, and found it extreeeemely sexy! Picked up the dad's om1 and fell in love with film photography. I would like to start this topic to collect your experiences with the G system, to let the others know why you chose it over the others and how you use it! Hi!! In just a few days i will be getting my g1+28mm and i really can't wait to use it.
